Abbott's $335 M HIV buy

Article Abstract:

Abbott Park, IL-based Abbott Laboratories will significantly expand its antiviral portfolio with a deal involving Durham, NC-based Triangle Pharmaceuticals. Abbott presently owns two HIV proteaseinhibitors (Norvir, approved and ABT-378, in phase III development). Triangle owns three nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and one non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor for treatment of HIV and HBV. Abbott will buy Triangle shares and provide $31.7 million in research funding. Both companies will share profits.
