Article Abstract:
Conventional and integrated pest management (IPM) willingness-to-purchase models were compared to evaluate demographic factors which cause consumers to be more likely to purchase IPM-grown produce. Results showed that those with higher annual incomes are more likely to express interest in buying IPM produce and seem less likely to exclusively purchase conventional produce. Results also suggest that four groups will be more likely to purchase IPM produce. These are those who often purchase organic produce, those who go to farmers' markets, those residing in suburban areas and younger individuals.

Article Abstract:
Shoppers of fresh produce were interviewed to find out the consumers' attitudes on pesticide use in growing tomatoes. Results showed that the majority of consumers are willing to pay up to 10% more for pesticide residue-free tomatoes. This is due to the consumers' concerns over the health and environmental effects of pesticide residue. However, unlike previous reports on consumer attitudes on pesticide use, a substantial number of respondents see some benefits in using chemical pesticides.
