Article Abstract:

A systems approach may be the most appropriate way to organize a corporate turnaround because the approach can look at overall issues and provide an accurate analysis of what is currently happening. A turnaround program using a systems method includes suggested steps such as: identifying and appointing managers and creating a turnaround team; analyzing difficulties; and developing alternative solutions. Strategies utilized in a turnaround program can include: a cost and contribution problem and solution strategy; a production-based problem and solution strategy; and a marketing problem and marketing-based solution strategy.

Effective corporate response to negative publicity

Article Abstract:

Product tampering and product recalls are examples of negative business publicity. There are steps available to mitigate the effects of negative publicity. Preventive advertising campaigns may be undertaken stressing the institutional credibility of the firm and product reliability. The outright admission of guilt and initiation of product recalls is often effective where culpability is clear. When culpability is less clear, use of distracting advertising is feasible. Any counter-advertising campaign should be aggressive, orderly, quick, and easy to understand. Press releases and press conferences are also useful.
