The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), the first agreement among nations that declared an entire category of weapons to be off limits is discussing measures to influence scientists' behavior, including professional codes of conduct and increased pathogen security. The impact of BWC on the life sciences include influencing the sharing of biological research samples, the formation of scientific collaborations or the ability to publish, strongly calls for the involvement of scientists, so that enacted measures would have the desired effect.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has heard the plea of small biotechs that are overwhelmed by Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) financial accounting compliance costs and in May 2006 has announced his intentions to simplify unnecessary and expensive complexities. Despite such effort, SOX compliance costs have already diverted money from R&D budgets and has also discouraged access to capital for biotech companies, making an initial public offering (IPO) in the US a much more costly endeavor.

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) would implement a new legislative framework and several provisions that seek to provide incentives and streamline regulatory oversight of certain monoclonal antibody (mAb) and other biologic products. The provisions that have a significant impact on requirements for the application for marketing authorization, the approval process and the post marketing of mAb are presented.
