Article Abstract:
Many financial institutions in the London area are looking for space to build, but the City of London proper is running out of room. The solution lies in available dockland areas near the City. One such area, London Bridge City, is in the planning process by the London Docklands Development Corporation. Citibank is expected to be one of the first banks to move into this development that stretches from the Tower Bridge to the London Bridge. The success of this enterprise has encouraged the Credit Suisse First Boston consortium to build another office building area on the old West India Dock, now called Canary Wharf. Construction is to start this year. Another business park is being developed to the south of Canary Wharf near the old Millwall docks - Enterprise Business Park. With improved transportation and communication these developments will provide excellent places.

Article Abstract:
The independent employment agency Reed Personnel improved the efficiency of its payroll systems by doing away with existing ICL mainframe computer systems and converting to an open Unix-based minicomputer network. The installation of the two new series 900 system 832 Hewlett Packard network machines was a cost-effective move since it facilitated the removal of ICL software and maintenance fees and required the services of just one operator instead of a staff of ten. The upgrade of Reed's information systems consisted of an invoicing system using Informix-based fourth generation language and relational database andChameleon from Tetra's financial accounting package, with bespoke work in the area of cash allocation undertaken by Foundation Systems.

Article Abstract:
In Great Britain, approximately 450 million pounds sterling is added to annual industrial costs by the practice of paying employees in cash each week. In the U.S., France and West Germany, only 1 percent of the work force receives its wages in cash. However, the growth of BACs (bankers' automated clearing services) in Britain may change these statistics, since the sole purpose of BACs is to pay employee wages directly into employee bank accounts. The operation and services of BACs are described in detail.
