American Express Co., a travel-service company, will acquire Mount Carmel, NJ-based Travel One Corp., the ninth-biggest travel management company in the US. Terms of the deal, including the purchase price were not revealed, but Travel One Chairman Jeff Harrow said his company will continue to operate under its own name. Harrow also expects that Travel One's 1,400 employees will be retained under the deal with American Express Co. American Express and Travel One expect to complete the deal in two months time.

Jones Apparel Group Inc. has put efforts to acquire Maxwell Shoe Company directly to the shoe designer's shareholder and announced a hostile take-over bid worth about $297 million. The $297 million offer which the Maxwell shoe company's board voted down is now being made directly to the shareholders.
