Most of the free market reforms of Pres Yeltsin and acting prime minister Yegor Gaidar may survive challenges in the seventh Congress of People's Deputies, which will begin Dec 1, 1992. Civic Union, an anti-Yeltsin faction, appears ready to accept a compromise reform package.

Yeltsin devalued

Article Abstract:

The central bank of Russia made a mistake in recalling old ruble notes while placing restrictions on the the number of rubles that can be exchanged for cash. Yeltsin backed out of rescinding the order, and as a result he has lost support for his reforms.
