Write-offs cheer investors

Article Abstract:

Osaka-based Daiwa Bank Ltd. will report a loss of 18 billion yen ($146.6 million) for the year ending March 31, largely because it is taking a write off of 32 billion yen in loans to Tokyo Mutual Life Insurance Co. The insurer is filing for court-led rehabilitation. Asahi Bank Ltd. will report a net loss of 10 billion yen for the fiscal year ending on March 31, partly because it is pushing forward with its plans to eliminate its own bad loans.

Japanese firms pick China as top site to expand operations

Article Abstract:

A recent survey by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation states that 54.5% of companies polled are considering increasing their operations in foreign countries over the next three years, especially in China because of it's inexpensive labor and its growth potential as a market. Japanese electronics companies, precision machinery companies and automobile companies are expected to lead production at overseas locations.
