As the magazine publishing industry in Asia and the United States is continues to grow, advertising expenditures in magazines are forecasted to rise 9% in Asia to $2 billion, and 4% in the U.S. this year. One of the largest growing sectors in Asia is women's magazines, in which advertising spending increased 15% last year.

An ACNielsen survey claims that the growth rate of advertising in China fell from 37 percent in the first quarter of 2000 to 18 percent during the first quarter of 2001. This drop is attributed to a slowing U.S. economy, and lower consumer spending due to a maturation of the market. Aegis Group PLC Chief Executive Officer Douglas Flynn forecasts advertising growth in 2001 at 15 percent.
