Wider, deeper, better

The London Stock Exchange is revamping two of its indices, the All-Share and the FT-SE 100, and is adding a new index for middle-sized companies. The moves are being greeted enthusiastically amongst companies and investors, most of whom felt the changes were long overdue.

While some analysts are steadfast in their predictions of a market recovery in late 1993, most signs point to continued share price weakness. Only faster profits growth or interest rate reductions could change the outlook.
