Royal Trustco, once one of Canada's most profitable financial holding firms, posted more than $.75 billion in losses in the three quarters prior to Mar 1993. Management attributes the losses to real estate market downturns in the UK, California and Canada.

A long climb out of the pit

Article Abstract:

The UK's major banks reported losses for the first time in 1992. Barclays Bank lost 285 pounds sterling after taxes and other major banks, such as Midland Bank and National Westminster showed similar losses. Bank officers expect a turnaround in 1993.
