Volvo's shares surge on report it rejected DaimlerChrysler bid

AB Volvo saw its share value increase by 8% on July 9, 1999 after it was reported that the car maker rejected DaimlerChrysler AG's unofficial takeover offer. The report appeared in a Swedish business tabloid. DaimlerChrysler reportedly made a 330 kronor (37.83 euro) per share offer to acquire Volvo. The bid gives Volvo a value of 146 billion kronor. However, the car maker would not accept a bid of less than 400 kronor per share.
