ARINC Inc reports that its new very high frequency (VHF) digital datalink VDL MOde 2 is already deployed and operational in the US after a successful operational test in Nov 2000. The system has 10 times the data capacity of previous aviation communications, and its increased capacity and speed promises benefits to airlines and controllers. It has been designed to carry vast amounts of data, including aircraft position reports, real-time engine date and operational information to assist airlines and pilots in day-to-day operations.

US-based Advanced Bridge Systems is building the Commuter Cab which is designed to be fitted to new bridges as well as retroffited to existing units. The Cab can service aircraft with sizes ranging fromsmall commuter types to large widebody aircraft. The equipment has a side shifting system that can move up to 20 inches in either direction from the center which allows for docking the bridge to a small prop driven aircraft.

Melbourne Airport in Australia has awarded the Airport Equipment of New Zealand, the Jetway licencee, with a contract to construct two new passenger boarding bridges. Airplan handled the project supervision. One bridge is designed to accommodate the new generation of regional jets. The second bridge has an extended fixed link to provide access between a range of aircraft types and the terminal.
