Article Abstract:

German banks have invested in industry since 1945, and this has led to the development of long-term finance as well as possible conflicts of interest and complacency. Banks have started to loosen their links with industry as stockholder value has come to be a greater concern. The tax system had deterred banks from selling these stakes earlier. Deutsche Bank is buying new stakes, while also selling old stakes, but the new investments are not intended to be long term.

Untangling intangibles: company balance sheets

Article Abstract:

More companies are trying to include intangible assets on their balance sheets, as tangible assets have lessened because of the recession. The Financial Accounting Standards Board will announce rules for intangibles in the spring of 1992.
