Unilever to cut jobs and close factories; consumer goods firm to focus on core brands

United Kingdom's consumer goods conglomerate Unilever PLC has announced plans to reduce its workforce and close factories as part of its restructuring plan. Unilever will cut 15,000 positions, close 100 factories and focus on its major brands in order to improve its financial performance.

Great Value Britain will include hotel discounts of as much as 50% at major chains with properties in London and parts of the countryside affected by travel restrictions to deal with the foot-and-mouth epidemic.
