Article Abstract:
Figures from the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds show that GB[pound] 8.2bn was put into unit trusts and Oeics in March. This was up 28% on last year's GB[pound] 6.4bn. The total investment under management was GB[pound] 262bn. Net sales of GB[pound] 727mn went to specialist sectors whereas GB[pound] 735mn to bigger UK all companies.

The Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Trusts (Autif) has appointed Richard Saunders to the director general's job, he will be taking over from Philip Warland on 01 May 2001. Richard Saunders has a strong civil service (Treasury) background and since leaving the service in 1995 has been part of MAI, United News & Media and Cardew, the PR consultancy. Mr Saunders hopes to lead the UK's fund managers into the European markets and all they have to offer. There is also a newly promoted deputy director general, Sheila Nicoll.

The Association of Unit Trusts & Investment Funds (Autif) has announced encouraging sales for open-ended investment companies (Oeics) and unit trusts in the UK although the market in general is in decline. Total gross sales in January 2001 rose 10% compared to December 2000 to GBu 4.5bn.
