French regulator sets next meeting on Lyonnais deal

The proposed merger between Credit Agricole S.A. and Credit Lyonnais S.A. will be considered at a meeting of France's main banking regulator. The proposed merger is valued at 19.5 billion euros. The ruling is become more contentious than previously thought.

Two French banks strike deal; Societe Generale buys stake in rival

Article Abstract:

Societe Generale S.A. has acquired a 3.8% stake in Credit Lyonnais S.A. in a transaction that both sides described as friendly. Societe Generale paid roughly 450 million euro to buy the stake in Credit Lyonnais from US hedge fund manager Tiger Management LLC in an off market transaction. Societe Generale said it hoped to develop partnerships with the recently privative Credit Lyonnais. The move is the latest wave of transactions in French banking following the advent in Europe's common currency.
