Article Abstract:
Ulster Unionist leader, David Trimble, faces a challenge to his leadership of the party following a speech in Washington indicating that he might be prepared to share power with the opposition prior to disarmament by the Irish Republican Army. The party is divided on the issue of peace in Northern Ireland, and has voted to prevent him for carrying out further talks on power sharing unless the police retains the name of 'Royal Ulster'. Trimble no longer appears to control the Ulster Unionists.
