Michael Wilkey, a U.K. architect who was an expert witness in a "copying" scandal involving architect Gareth Pearce, was found not to have engaged in misconduct by a judge. Wilkey used the case "Designers Guild v. Russsell Williams, 2001" in his defense. Wilkey received some criticism from the judge, but all accusations of professional incompetence and misconduct were dropped.

The decision on 15 December 2005 in the case of Jones v. Garnett was a victory for the taxpayer and a blow for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). For taxpayers who self-assessed on the basis that the case would be overturned, no action is needed on their returns.
