Transatlantic coup for London Manston

Renaissance Cruises has selected London Manston Airport for a series of charter flights in the summer of 2000. The first of a series of 10 return flights, included in its Northern European cruise program, landed at Manston on Jul 12, 2000. Passengers flown by a World Airways Boeing MD-11 aircraft are brought from New York to Manston where they are transferred to their cruise ship at Dover. The flights are a keyi step in the airport's objective to develop its passenger flights alongside its buoyant cargo business.

Paris sorts bags

Teleflex Gallet's automation of the transfer-baggage system at Paris, France's Charles de Gaulle Airport has tripled the airport's throughput rate for transfer bags. The company's automated baggage handling system has six lines, each with 800 bags/hour capacity, feeding automatic x-ray machines which operate at 1,200 bags/hour. For suspect bags, the system directs them to an additional screening levels where trained operators examine the screened images according to IATA recommended practices.

Cardiff upgrades hold baggage screening system

Article Abstract:

TBI, operator of Wales, UK's Cardiff International Airport, has completed a 350,000-pounds-sterling baggage screening project using the services of Geo Robson and Co. The airport's baggage-handling system has been integrated with check-in facilities by modifying existing conveyors, installing new equipment and amalgamating baggage routes. These adjusments and new equipment allowed passenger bags from the 24-check-in desks to pass through a single 100% hold baggage screening system.
