The new outlaws: Northern Ireland

Article Abstract:

The British government has finally outlawed the Ulster Defence Association, a loyalist terrorist group. In recent years, this group has been responsible for killing almost as many people as the Irish Republican Army, which has long been outlawed.

Fear of change: terrorism

Article Abstract:

The UK renewed the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), which was aimed at Irish terrorists in the 1970s, but is archaic, unfair and will only perpetuate terrorism. PTA allows any suspect to be detained for one week without approval of a judge.
