Article Abstract:

Michael Heseltine has mishandled Britain's program to close coal mines; he must pursue it, or high prices and jobs lost in other industries will more than offset miners' jobs retained. Britain needs to continue privatizing, and let each fuel compete in an open market.

Article Abstract:

Michael Heseltine is attempting recover from his mishandling of British coal mine closures in Oct 1992 by proposing subsidies for still-open pits and and aid package for localities with closed mines. He may get just enough Conservative Party votes to succeed.
