The buyout market accounted for more than half of all acquisitions and mergers during 1996 and MBIs accounted for the majority of this activity. The average size of MBI deals increased to 25 million pounds sterling in 1997 when the MBI market was worth 6 billion pounds sterling. Good MBI candidates can add much value to venture capital transactions but it is important to assess the personal qualities of MBI candidates carefully, looking for qualities including ambition, experience and team building success.
