Article Abstract:

China has seen a rise in child kidnapping, the sale of brides, prostitution, heroin addiction, piracy, and other problems, as well as religion and superstition. The Communist creed stressed serving others, but this has been eroded. Superstition is reviving with the spread of cults. A shrine has been set up to chairman Mao near where he was born, and he has been treated as though he were another god, with incense, fruit offerings and fake flowers at the shrine.
