Difficult to rig: Japan's chip market

Article Abstract:

The efforts of the Electronic Industries of Association of Japan to raise semiconductor imports have increased US share of the Japanese chip market to 16%. US-made semiconductors are more suited to industrial uses. This helps boosts consumer electronics sales.

Obsessive fear of losing the top global economic ranking leads to bad economic policies such as trade protectionism and industrial subsidies. US policy needs to aim at domestic productivity and growth, not at beating the Japanese.
