The two aerospace giants of the US and Europe are considering building an 800-seat jumbo jet together, but this should not be permitted. The two companies could end up with a monopoly that would harm the airline industry, and government subsidies would also be a poor idea.

Consortiamania: European aerospace

Deutsche Aerospace, Aerospatiale, and Alenia are planning a consortium to be named Regioliner. The consortium will produce a 120-seat jet airliner in 1996, and production will cost about $2.5 billion.
