Article Abstract:
Shozo Kadowaki worked for 32 years as a chick-sexer in Sweden. He learned the trade in Japan, which was the first country to discover and teach the technique of chick sexing. He moved to Sweden in 1962 to become one of the three or four Japanese chick-sexers working across the country. Chicken breeders found it lucrative to pay high fees to the chick-sexers, because it prevented them having to house and feed the unwanted chicks for the four to six weeks before the roosters' red crests appeared. Kadowaki could sex 2,000 chicks per hour with 98% accuracy.

Hong Kong's Prisoner of War Association marks the liberation from the Japanese occupation with a parade each year. However, members of the Hong Kong Kowloon Guerilla Brigade, who assisted Allied PoWs escapes and helped in covert reconnaissance missions, have not been acknowledged. The Hong Kong Kowloon Guerilla brigade was formed in 1942 with the initial aim of preventing the banditry and lawlessness following the Japanese invasion. There are hopes that the Liberation Day Parade will be incorporated in the Sino-Japanese War Victory Day on 18 August.

Ballroom dancing used to have a rather negative image in Hong Kong, according to Pearl Chan, but this is no longer the case. She trained in a number of different forms of dancing in the UK, and has worked tirelessly for many years to promote dance in Hong Kong. She reintroduced competitive ballroom dancing to China in 1986, and has been involved in a considerable number of dance musical films. Her work was recognised in the early 1990s when she was granted a seat on the Beijing Committee of the Chinese People's Consultative Committee.
