The sun care products industry's performance in Spain was examined in relation to sales and trends. The data used for the study covered the years 1994-1998 with forecasts made up to the year 2003. Among the main findings were the continued maturity of the market for the years 1994-1998 and the lower purchases made by Spaniards of sun care products compared to northern Europeans. Of the different products, sunscreen held a 79.9% value share in 1998 while artificial tanning products increased by 31.3% for the period 1994-1998. Future growth will be fueled by tourism and health concerns.

The sun care products market in France may be divided into numerous sectors which, as a whole, showed the 'least dynamic' growth between 1988-1992. With a market value of FF1 billion in 1992, it includes sun tanners, sun protectors, after-sun preparations, lip products, pre-tan lotions and self-tanning preparations. At present, major players in the industry include L'Oreal, BDF Nivea SA, Yves Roches SA and Laboratories RoC SA.
