The Italian pet food and pet care industry posted robust growth from 1994 to 1998 due to rising pet ownership and an increasing tendency to indulge pets. The pet food market grew by 54.5% from 1994, as it was valued at 2,613 billion liras in 1998. The pet care market showed dynamism during the period, as gleaned from an impressive 74% increase in value. During the 1998-2003 period, the pet food and pet care markets are forecast to post a 58.4% rise in real value terms as more and more pet owners choose industrially prepared food products for their pets.
