The market for chilled foods, delicatessen foods and ready meals in Spain is analyzed. Major trends indicate a 3% real-term growth in the market between 1989 and 1993. Market expansion can be attributed to the growing popularity of premium products, such as chilled meals and desserts. However, sales have declined due to the economic recession. Sales of butter, yoghurts and chilled desserts were particularly affected by the recession. Between 1993 and 1998, the Spanish market for chilled foods, delicatessen foods and ready meals is expected to grow by 2%.
