Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), car company, plans to produce over 1,900 vehicles per day in 2001. The quantity is about 100 pieces higher compared to 1999. The firm saw a profit of CEK 3.34 bil in 2000, about 25% more compared to 1999. Its net profit margin was 2.4%. Its sales rose by nearly 20% to 448,394 pieces in 2000 compared to 1999. Its proceeds totalled CEK 136 bil in 2000, nearly 25% more compared to 1999. Exports represent 10% of SA's total turnover. SA has more than a 50% share on the domestic market. The firm has invested about DEM 4 bil from its sources since 1991. SA is wholly owned by the concern Volkswagen (VW) (Germany). VW bought a majority stake in the firm for DEM 1.4 bil in 1991 and the rest for another DEM 1 bil in 2000.

Plus-Discount (PD) (Prague, Czech Republic), retailer, expects its proceeds to considerably increase in 2001 compared to 2000. PD's turnover amounted to over CEK 8.4 bil in 2000. PD has been operating in the Czech Republic for nine years. It co-operates with large-scale international and small-scale Czech suppliers. Some of them have become profitable firms due to PD. PD's management do not agree with the opinion that it liquidates small Czech suppliers. It does not want to be the sponsor of firms that produce bad and expensive products with old equipment. PD is a subsidiary of the family trade company Tengelmann (Germany).
