Systems now ready to start tracing fish

Article Abstract:

The recent outbreaks of mad cow disease has forced the food processing industry to come up with some sort of methodology for tracing the source of the foods. The systems, technology and gadgets that will be used by the European Union and the FDA within a year for tracing the fish source are discussed. The European Union initiative 'The Traceability of Fish Products Concerted Action Project' better known as tracefish is also discussed.

Call for zero North Sea cod TAC

Scientists from International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) are trying to put a full stop to fishing in the North Sea for skate, thornback and Scotland cod. Consequently, European fishermen are bracing themselves for such an eventuality.
