Starbucks Coffee plans to open up to 75 stores in Quebec within a period of five years. The coffee shop chain has entered into a long-term licensing agreement with Montreal's Vision Cafe for the said stores, which would be operated under the corporate name Cafe Starbucks Coffee. Cafe Starbucks would serve freshly-prepared food that are baked on site, including hot and cold low-fat sandwiches, panini and salads. Montreal's Communications blue blanc rouge would handle public relations and advertising for the Cafe Starbucks stores.

The billboard war in Quebec has the federal, provincial and municipal governments battling each other over which has jurisdiction over the billboards and how to regulate billboard messages. Twenty-nine double- sided billboards would be installed on federally-owned sites near the Jacques Cartier and Champlain bridges. The city of Montreal says the billboards slated for its territory are not covered by any city permit. On the other hand, the city of Verdun says the billboards are too big and violate zoning rules.

Despite being an effective advertising media, the outdoor industry is facing stiff competition from other media. According to a report by Nielson Outdoor, marketers around the globe spend US$17 billion (C$23.3 billion) on outdoor media as against US$120 billion (C$164.4billion) on television advertising. The use of improved, technologically advanced measurement tools will provide the best solution for outdoor advertising.
