Article Abstract:

The war between the Turkish army and the Kurdish Workers Party has resumed in northern Turkey in the spring of 1996. The war, which began in 1984, had a temporary ceasefire in Dec 1995. The Kurdish rebels are backed up by the governments of Syria and Iraq. Many Turks believe the Kurds should have more autonomy.

Article Abstract:

Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) guerrillas operating in Turkey are now fighting openly with that country, which is responding by invading rebel outposts in Iraq and Iran. Kurds in all three countries have failed to unify themselves in the face of government aggression.

Article Abstract:

Turkish troops are in Iraq seeking Marxist rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party. The Kurds of Iraq are fighting these rebels to convince Turkey to allow them political power as part of Turkey, ideally under a federal system.
