Article Abstract:

Over 65% of the British population participates in some form of sport and the sports industry employs 467,000 people. Sports facilities are largely the province of local authorities which are likely to concentrate on upgradinng existing facilities in times of financial restraint. Other factors affecting the building of sports facilities are the Sports Council which is to issue a strategy in Mar 1993 and Manchester, England's bid to hold the 2000 Olympic Games.

Article Abstract:

The Blackwood Golf Centre was developed by architects O'Donnell and Tuomey and features external finishes of coloured render, cedar and terne-coated steel. The central building is designed around a large reception room and the curved driving range is a strong form. The mainframe is builted in structural steelwork with an insulated metal deck roof.

The architectural and engineering achievements of the Athens Olympic stadia has been overshadowed by the delays. Calatrava's velodrome and Sports Concepts' new arena, with new facilities, are the main highlights of the Olympic stadia.
