Spanish charm? New accelerators

Article Abstract:

CERN, the European particle physics research center, is planning to build the Large Hadron Collider at its Swiss-french border site. Spain is hoping for a smaller project called a tau!charm factory on its own soil, which would mean contracts for Spanish firms.

Burton Richter of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center hopes to keep his project alive by deferring current government funding in favor of the money to build a B-factory accelerator in five years. Other finances in this branch of physics are discussed.
