Aeroporti Di Roma has commissioned French software company Steria and partner Datamat to customize and implement the Saiga system. The airport is upgrading its airport information system with new resource management software. The system is based on ILOG technology and comprises independent modules that link into the airport information system. The modules cover administration, planning, stand allocation, gate allocation and resource management for conveyor belts, check-in desks and boarding lounges.

Teleflex Gallet's automation of the transfer-baggage system at Paris, France's Charles de Gaulle Airport has tripled the airport's throughput rate for transfer bags. The company's automated baggage handling system has six lines, each with 800 bags/hour capacity, feeding automatic x-ray machines which operate at 1,200 bags/hour. For suspect bags, the system directs them to an additional screening levels where trained operators examine the screened images according to IATA recommended practices.

PerkinElmer Instruments Inc's Detection Systems Div has received repeat orders for its automated explosives detection systems from the Civil Aviation of France. The orders are valued at US$7 million and part of a three-year contract between the agency and PerkinElmer. The equiment will be placed in the regional airports in France and the territories, particularly, Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
