Slovaks v Czechs on gypsies

Article Abstract:

The Slovakian government has appointed a minority rights minister who is especially concerned about improving relations with Slovakian gypsies, but there is concern that the coalition government may not last long enough for this to have an impact. Romanies face ethnic intolerance in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic. They have high levels of unemployment, face racist attacks, and many are classed as dysfunctional by the educational system. The Czech government has started to improve the rights of Romanies, but critics argue that the measures are ineffective.

Plucked velvet: Czechs and Slovaks

Article Abstract:

The monetary and customs unions will be the most difficult to create between the newly independent Slovakia and Czech Republic. Their economies are rapidly growing different from one another. Political extremism is increasing in both countries.

Article Abstract:

The separation of Czechoslovakia into the states of the Czech Republic and Slovakia is not going as well as originally hoped. Relations between the two are deteriorating rapidly, and the once healthy Czech economy is beginning to decline.
