Shin makes a mobile move

Article Abstract:

Shin Corp. subsidiary Shin Digital Co. will buy the 49.99 percent stake in Thailand's Digital Phone Company Ltd. from Telekom Malaysia, and then Shin Digital will be acquired from Shin Corp. (70%) and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (30%) by Advanced Info Service PCL. Shin Corp. will then hold 43% of Advanced Info and Singapore Telecom will own 18.5%. Digital Phone Company Ltd. will continue to operate as a separate entity.

DoCoMo chooses AT&T Wireless for push into U.S

Article Abstract:

NTT DoCoMo Inc., a Japanese operator of a mobile-Internet firm, intends to spend $9.8 billion for a 16% stake in the U.S. firm AT&T Wireless Group. The Japanese firm offers i-mode, a wireless Net service permitting people to download news, send e-mail, and perform other functions on their mobile phones. It is not known whether U.S. consumers will be receptive to the service.

Vodafone makes its move

Article Abstract:

Vodafone Group PLC is offering to buy about 700,000 shares of Japan Telecom Co., which would increase its stake in the firm from 45% to 66.7% and give it a 69.7% share of mobile operator J-Phone. The acquisition would bring Vodafone into direct competition with service provider NTT DoCoMo Inc.
