Article Abstract:

A huge growth in world population is seen as threatening to environmental improvement unless the correct policies are adopted by the developed world. A World Bank report highlighted the fact that the right policies in the developing world can improve the global environment. It is argued that market forces are unlikely to lead to less pollution as less developed economies struggle to expand. The Earth Summit was an attempt to tackle the global aspects of the environment.

Article Abstract:

By the end of 1990 the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) talks were due to be concluded. They are a vehicle for decisions on international trade agreements. The US extended the talks until 1993. This round of GATT talks was significant for its inclusion of agriculture, services and intellectual property rights in the discussions. Agreements on agriculture, steel and aircraft production proved particularly difficult to negotiate.

The UK and the world economy; German economic problems and the European economy

Article Abstract:

The German economy has been weakened by the costs of reunification. Funds have had to be transferred to the former East Germany to support their economy. Germany also has a budget deficit. They have trouble in controlling their inflation rates, and may not meet the Maastricht Treaty requirements on interest rates. The economic problems of Germany affect the other EC countries adversely.
