PT Satelindo has contracted Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Martin Marietta Commercial Launch Services Inc. to launch its first Palapa C satellite in Jan. 1996. The company chose Lockheed Martin's $92 million Atlas rocket system after its previous contractor, Arianespace, failed to launch the satellite twice. Meanwhile, analysts believe that Lockheed Martin will most likely need only eight months, as compared to the standard 12-month preparation period, to set-up the launch.

PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) has finalized an agreement to sell 25% of its stocks to Deutsche Telekom for $586 million. The announcement came as a surprise to local and foreign analysts since many believed that Cable and Wireless PLC had already won over Deutsche Telekom. Satelindo won the right to own the next generation of Palapa satellites, to be the sole rival of Indosat in the next 10 years and to offer mobile radio telephone services in the country.

P.T. Satelit Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) has begun holding talks for the possible sale of 25% its interests to a foreign telephone firm. The companies reported to be interested in acquiring a stake in the telecommunications concern are France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, NYNEX Corp. and Cable and Wireless PLC. Through the sale, Satelindo hopes to obtain the necessary capital and technical expertise to transform itself into a major communications services provider.
