Russian ipo's spur jitters

Russian companies are increasingly eager to list initial public offerings in Western countries. Morgan Stanley pulled out of an initial public offering of OAO Cherkizovo because of a lack of consensus over valuation. The securities releases may be subject to unpredictable taxes, lack of protective regulation for minority shareholders and corruption.

StatoilHydro to help Gazprom develop big Russian gas field

Russian gas firm OAO Gazprom has chosen Norway's StatoilHydro ASA as its partner in developing the world's biggest untapped offshore gas field, located in the arctic. However, it is uncertain whether the project will begin producing as scheduled in 2013 due to political issues and technical challenges.
