Article Abstract:

It is anticipated the UK roadside catering market will increase in value from 449 million pounds sterling in 1998, to 480 million pounds sterling in 2002, at 1998 prices. It is predicted food courts will become more widely available offering a range of different types of foods. Off-motorway catering outlets are expected to have equal sales with motorway service areas in 1998. Some 23% of adults would prefer to use restaurant facilities whilst travelling and 71% felt roadside food was costly. Granada Group PLC was the largest motorway service area operator in 1998, with 32 outlets.
