Article Abstract:
Linux is an operating system which programmers have developed on a voluntary basis, and which is distributed by Red Hat, a North Carolina software company. Red Hat tests software that volunteers have developed and produces a working operating system. Netscape and Intel are to acquire stakes in Red Hat, and this backing gives market credibility to the company. Linux could expand at the expense of Windows NT, and some analysts argue that it is a superior product.
