Straight bonds are becoming the most popular means of financing companies in Japan. This trend is attributed to the lack of other viable alternatives and the low profits being garnered by companies lately. The deregulation of the economy has also made the costs of bonds comparable with those issued abroad. Securities companies have predicted some difficulties with this trend and have established limited markets for bonds issued by utilities companies.
