Article Abstract:
Adult Contemporary (AC) remains the top radio format in share of total hours of listening in Canada's leading 12 markets based on a spring 2000 survey. However, AC's share of 26.8% declined from 28.4% in spring 1999 and 31.8% in spring 1998. This drop reduced AC's lead in half to five share points over its nearest rival, News/Talk. Likewise, News/Talk's share fell to 21.75% from 23.4% in spring 1999. On the other hand, Contemporary Hit Radio's share increased to 18.9% in spring 2000 from 12.4% in spring 1998, becoming the third most popular format.
