Article Abstract:
Rafael's fourth-generation Python 4 air-to-air missile can attain controlled flight at about twice the angle of attack achieved by third generation designs and sustain double their turn rate due to the weapon's 18 aerodynamic surfaces. The Israeli Defense Forces' F-15 pilot who discussed details about Python 4 also said the weapon's aerodynamic surfaces allow it to position its vector of maximum maneuverability in the direction of the target. Despite the estimated 40km range brought by Python 4's solid-propellant powered rocket motor, the IDF utilizes the weapon as a complement to a beyond-visual-range weapon. The Python 4 is already deployable with two models each of F-5, F-15 and F/A-18, as well as through the F-16 and Kfir.

Israel Aircraft Industries and Tadiran Electronic Systems have unveiled for the first time outside Israel the Arrow theater missile defense weapon system and its Citron Tree battle management center. The system's components are expected to attain initial operational capability by mid- 2000. The Arrow missile features state-of-the-art aerodynamics and thrust vector control for high maneuverability even at altitudes near the exoatmosphere. The Citron Tree BMC, contained in a mobile shelter complex, consists of 10 principal multifunctional workstations.

Article Abstract:
Israel's Merkava main battle tank (MBT) has been fitted with the fourth- generation armor to give it better protection and increase its survivability. Continuous improvements in the Merkava's armor protection have been possible because of the MBT's unique system of easily replaceable modules. Moreover, the increase in the wieght of the Merkava due to armor protection improvements has not affected its tactical mobility.
