Pulling the plug on reservoirs

Article Abstract:

A surplus reservoir site is the subject of controversial development plans. A pumping station and adjoining land in Stoke Newington, London, England, is surplus to the requirements of Thames Water. The Victorian pumping station was built in the style of a medieval castle and the Save the Reservoirs committee, a local residents' protest group, has announced an urban design competition to take the initiative in determining the future of the site. The residents fear over-development and wanted more consultation with Thames Water. The water company have been drawing up their own development plans.

Lines on London

Article Abstract:

'Drawing on London' was a three-day workshop in which urban designers and architects looked at using their skills on neglected urban sites on which traditional development processes had failed. The man behind the project was Richard MacCormac, president of the RIBA, who believes that the renewal of our cities depends on bridging the gap between the planning process and the process of developing and designing buildings.
