Publicis of France gains a major presence in the Spanish market following the company's acquisition of Casadevall Pedreno & PRG of Barcelona, Spain, for an undisclosed amount. Casadevall Pedreno, which has received an average of more than 30 awards for every year of its existence, posted Ptas2,066,000,000, or $13.5 million, in 1997. The company's customers include Coca Cola, Microsoft, El Corte Ingles, SEAT and Danone. Meanwhile, Publicis, which is currently in negotiations to acquire agencies in Taiwan, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China, achieved billings of more than FF17.4 billion, or $2.9 billion, in the first six months of 1998, up 41% from its billings in the first half of 1997.

Officials of the Spanish television industry need to consider regional plans to enhance growth. Juarez has decided to keep become a non-exclusive consultant for the firm. Juarez indicated conflict with the dominant Partido Popular of Spain and personal reasons for his departure. Juarez is optimistic that media will improve with globalization towards the local market as the main goal.

Publicis International has sealed bargain buys in the Asian region with the acquisition of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based Wet Desert and Lahore, Pakistan-based Headstart. Wet Desert, which will be renamed Publicis-Wet Desert, will bring clients that include Nestle, L'Oreal and Caltex. Headstart, which is 60%-owned by Publicis, has clients that include Nestle, Tetrapack, Coca-Cola and Volvo.
