Article Abstract:
St Albans cathedral already makes provision for disabled people, mainly concentrating on wheelchair use, implemented by fixed and moveable timber ramps. An access audit of the cathedral and chapter house has been undertaken to see how the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act can be implemented. English Heritage provides guidelines for historic buildings, such as avoiding alterations that would have an adverse effect on the special character of the property and making sure that any alterations are reversible as far as possible.

The use of information systems for Heathrow Terminal 5 will play a role in plans by BAA to cut the construction cost to 1,100 pounds sterling per sq mt, compared with the usual terminal cost of 1,600 pounds sterling per sq mt. Attention will be given to increasing prefabrication and modularisation, framework agreements and standardising on some products. The use of IT will allow networked communication, thus avoiding duplication of effort.

The ICAT (Integrating Computer Aided Technology) 95 exhibition will take place at the NEC in Birmingham, England, on March 7-9, 1995. The exhibition will feature CAD systems.
